Preload/Prefetch, CSS Grid Guide and VR Design: #1.30 the latest News (the Good Parts)

During past few months Web made a giant leap
forward. I’m fascinated by our Future. [Music playing] Hi! Let’s talk today about Preload/Prefetch in
Chrome, CSS Grid Guide and VR Design. I’m Anatol and you are watching the Good Parts
of the Frontend development. [Music playing] Addy Osmani posted a comprehensive article
headed “Preload, Prefetch And Priorities in Chrome”. Here you can see how web loading primitives
like link preload and prefetch work behind the scenes so you can be more effective with
them. Auth0 launched a series entitled “Glossary
of Modern JavaScript Concepts”. In the first episode the fundamentals of functional,
reactive, and functional reactive programming in JavaScript are outlined. If you’re eager to learn more, find the links
in each section for additional resources. Here we go again, there is one more good paper
on JavaScript engine’s running under the hood, namely “Garbage collection in V8, an
illustrated guide” by Irina Shestak posted on Medium. Even such complicated concepts provided by
the way of illustration can be easily understood. Another useful article is “A Comprehensive
Overview of WebPack” by Cody Arsenault. It covers the following topics: Setup Basics
and Installation, Loaders and Chaining, Plugins and Support for ES6. In case you missed it, Node now supports async/await
out of the box. Async/await is one of the most revolutionary
features that have been added to JavaScript in the past few years. Therefore, you might find the tutorial “6
Reasons Why JavaScript’s Async/Await Blows Promises Away” worth reading. CSS Grids live their lives in Chrome, Firefox
and Opera. Probably it’s a good chance to try them. So Eric Meyer presented his experience in
the context of transforming an existing design based on floats and inline-blocks into trendy
CSS grids. Another informative article on this topic
is “A Complete Guide to CSS Grid Layout” by Chris House. It covers not only Basics and Terminology,
but also provides the description of each property of the Grid Container and Grid Items. On Google developer’s blog you can read how
to build a frame-perfect custom scrollbar using matrix transformation in CSS. Unfortunately, this approach doesn’t work
in Internet Explorer. Greg Hovanesyan is back with another tutorial
“Recreating Legendary 8-Bit Game Music with Web Audio API” . The last point for today is “Getting Started
With VR Interface Design” by Sam Applebee & Alex Deruette. In this article they share a process for designing
